Immutep

Corporate Background

Immutep is a spin-off from the Gustave Roussy Institute (the largest cancer center clinic in Europe, located South of Paris) and Merck-Serono. It was first incorporated in September 2001. The company's name derived from Imhotep, Doctor, Architect, High Priest, Scribe and Vizier to King Djoser in Ancient Egypt (reigned 2630–2611 BC) who was deified after his death and identified in Greece with the god of medicine, Asclepios.

The company's principal scientific founder, Pr. Frédéric Triebel, M.D., Ph.D., is a senior investigator in both fundamental Immunology and Immunotherapy clinical trials. He cloned the LAG-3 gene in the early 90's and showed subsequently, after 10 years of research, its usefulness as a T-cell response immunostimulant.

The Company is well-advanced in the clinic and is planning a Phase IIb/III trial in 2011. It is based near Paris, France, and is staffed with 8 professionals.
